I want to be an IRCOp......

First of all, being one, is the rarest thing that can happen to you. Being one among the #Help staff doesn't make you one either. IRCOp’s do help people in their spare time, but helping users will not guarantee IRCOp status. So if someone has send you here to #Help to be an IRCOp, then you have got it totally wrong.

Becomming an IRCOp is not a simple thing. First of all an Admin will approach you, and look at adding you. He/she should be aware that you are good, reliable and hardworking, someone who can keep the network and server running smoothly, while adhering to DALnets policies.

*If* you become an Oper on DALnet, there are several responsibilities you have such as:

  • You will be working with your fellow Opers Administering your server
  • Assisting in maintaining network stability
  • Helping the users on the network as a whole or for the least, related to your server

Some prerequisites of being an Opper would be :

  • You should already have an indepth knowledge of IRC commands, especially of the DAlnet IRCD Bahamut, and a full understanding of DALnet Services commands.
  • You should be aware of basic networking for the least, though extensive knowledge for *starters* is no must.
  • A plus point could be your dedicated assistance of users in need of help (specifically in the DALnet recommended help channels), having a helpful attitude, being friendly, patient and having a keen interest on bringing out the best of the network.
  • Being known in the @DAL.net mailing lists. (eg: help-general@DAL.net,DALnet-src@DAL.net,DALnet-services@DAL.net, DALnet@DAL.net etc.)
  • Life as an IRCOp is not all roses. IRCOps dedicate countless hours to DALnet with the only reward being the warm and fuzzy feeling they get from helping people.

DALnet is a FREE chat network. Opers work to their best to keep the network in a fine shape, irrespective of the fact that its voluntary.
