What's Wrong with DALnet?

DALnet has been severely disrupted over the past few weeks and months from a series of concerted denial of service attacks. The user count has been cut in half (from >110k to <60k) and the number of usable servers to fewer than 10! Connecting to DALnet can be challenging. There is no quick or easy solution. Until the attacks subside, things will continue to be a mess. This month's "DALnet Ezine" is devoted to the issue of these attacks and how they are affecting the network.

Unable to connect (Can't assign requested address)

This is an error many IRC users will come across, All server addresses of servers who have been de-linked resolve to 255.255.255.255 This is NOT a real ip address. Further more irc.dal.net / irc.us.dal.net / irc.eu.dal.net have been disabled too.

So how do you get on ?

You'll need to know which servers are online at the time and try each of them. Once you are connected you should type /links and write down every server the list brings you, Keeping up to date with servers that are currently on will only make life easier for YOU!
